NEW TRANSPORT FOR LONDON (TfL) DVS 2024 PROGRESSIVE SAFE SYSTEM

WHAT IS A DVS PROGRESSIVE SAFE SYSTEM (PSS)?

The Progressive Safe System (PSS) is an enhanced version of the current Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Safe System that operators are required to install on all fleet vehicles over 12 tonnes to enable drivers to travel and operate legally within Greater London from October 2024.

The new DVS Progressive Safe System has the same aim of the current system, having been designed to provide smarter and more sophisticated technology. This new technology will greatly reduce a drivers indirect vision and eliminate blind spots on the nearside of the vehicle. The new Progressive Safe System is also required distinguish between stationary and moving objects, and only alert the driver when VRUs and other moving objects are detected. In addition, any installed nearside camera monitoring system is be required to completely eliminate the blind spot at the nearside of the vehicle.

DO I NEED A DVS PROGRESSIVE SAFE SYSTEM?

If your HGV vehicles have a current Direct Vision star rating of 0 to 2 stars, or if you are in possession of a current DVS Safety Permit until midnight on 27th October 2024, then you will need to install the new Progressive Safe System and then reapply for a new Direct Vision Standard Safety Permit from 24th June 2024 ready for October 28th 2024.

All permits granted will then be valid until midnight on 28th October 2030.

If you do not currently know the star-rating of HGVs or vehicles over 12 tonnes travelling or operating within Greater London, then you can find out their star ratings either from the TfL website by using our simple 3-step guide below.

According to Transport for London (TfL), over 211,000 HGVs will need to have a new DVS Progressive Safe System fitted to be compliant before applying for the HGV Safety Permit. Be DVS compliant and avoid being fined up to £550/day!
